- Concealed Carry Rules and Regs in Nebraska
- Concealed Carry in Nebraska was created in 2006 by a bill called LB454, a group of statutes entitled the "Concealed Handgun Permit Act" (69-2427). Most of the act is included in sections 69-2427 to 69-2447. These sections were enacted Jan 1, 2007. Nebraskans may choose to obtain a Concealed Handgun Permit (CHP) from the State Police. Handgun is defined as any firearm with less than 16" barrel or intended to operate with only one hand.
- Application for Permit
- Apply at any State Police troop headquarters (69-2430)

- Supply Drivers License, Military or State ID (69-2430)
- Application includes full name, social security number, motor vehicle operator's license number or state identification card number, address, and date of birth and the applicant's signature. (69-2430)
- Falsifying information on application is a Class IV Felony (69-2430)
- If you are denied the permit you can appeal to the district court in your county of residence (69-2430)
- You must submit to full fingerprint profiles and a background check through national agencies (FBI), done by Nebraska State Police. (69-2431)
- You must complete satisfactory training, guidelines set forth by the Nebraska State Patrol, by a NSP certified instructor. (69-2432)

- Additional Requirements for Permit Applicants (69-2433):
- Be 21 years of age
- Be in compliance with 18 U.S.C. 922, i.e. legally allowed to purchase and possess a handgun.
- Not have plead guilty, no contest, or been convicted of any violent crime in Nebraska or any other jurisdiction.
- Not have been found in the past 10 years mentally ill or dangerous
- Been resident of Nebraska for 180 days
- Have no firearms, unlawful use of weapon, or controlled substance violations in Nebraska or other jurisdictions in the past 10 years.
- Not be on parole, probation, house arrest, or work release
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Permit to be revoked if you do not meet the requirements above (69-2435)
- Permit valid for a period of five years. Permit fee $100. Renewal available from four months to expiration of permit, $50 renewal fee.
- Responsibilities of a CHP holder (29-2440)
- You must have your permit to carry a concealed handgun and your Nebraska driver's license, state or military identification card whevenver you carry a concealed handgun.
- You must show your ID and CHP when asked by emergency services personnel or peace officer.
You must inform emergency services or peace officers that you are a permit holder and that you are carrying a weapon, during any contact. - The peace officer or emergency services personnel may secure the handgun for the duration of the contact if he/she believes it is neccessary for the safety of anyone present.
If the peace officer or emergency services personnel determines you are not a threat to anyone present, he/she must return the firearm to you. If emergency services is transporting you to a location for treatment, the firearm will be turned over to an available peace officer. The peace officer will provide a receipt which includes the make, model, caliber, and serial number of the firearm. - Any time discharge of your firearm results in damage to property or injury to a person, you must notify the State Patrol in person via provided form. - Restrictions on CHP Holder Carrying a Concealed Handgun (29-2441)
- You are allowed to carry concealed handgun anywhere in Nebraska except:
- Police, sheriff, or Nebraska State Patrol station or office
- Detention facility, prison, or jail
- Courtroom or building which contains a courtroom
- Polling place during a bona fide election
- Meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality, or other political subdivision
- Meeting of the Legislature or a committee of the Legislature
- Financial institution
- Professional or semiprofessional athletic event
- Building, grounds, vehicle, or sponsored activity or athletic event of any public, private, denominational, or parochial school or private or public university, college, or community college
- Place of worship
- Hospital, emergency room, or trauma center
- Political rally or fundraiser
- Establishment having a license issued under the Nebraska Liquor Control Act that derives over one-half of its total income from the sale of alcoholic liquor
- Place where the possession or carrying of a firearm is prohibited by state or federal law
- A place or premises where the person, persons, entity, or entities in control of the property or employer in control of the property has prohibited permit holders from carrying concealed handguns into or onto the place or premises
- Any other place or premises where handguns are prohibited by law or rule or regulation.
- A place or premises that has prohibited permit holders from carrying concealed handguns onto the premises must post conspicuous notice, or ask the permit holder that the firearm be removed, before the permit holder is in violation of this section.
- Permit holder may not be consuming alcohol, or have any alcohol or controlled substance remaining in his/her blood, urine, or breath.

- Following Cities have prohibited Concealed Carry of a Handgun in the entire city:
- Lexington (19-27)
- Nebraska City
- Norfolk (14-237)
- O'Neil (2-111)
- Seward (6-331)
- Wayne (58132)
- York (2446)
- Following Cities have prohibited Concealed Carry of a Handgun in a specific way, explained:
- Lincoln - Unlawful to keep firearms unattended in a motor vehicle for more than 24 hours (9.36.110). There are also a list of offenses that prohibit you from possessing any firearm within Lincoln city limits. Please see 9.36.100 for this list and requisites.
- North Platte - Can not possess weapons of any kind in any park, pathway or recreational facility. (38-5)
- Omaha
- It is legal to carry a concealed weapon on your person if you hold a Nebraska CHP (20-192)
- Many other restrictions apply if you are carrying a concealable firearm openly, or transporting a concealable firearm in your vehicle (not on your person, concealed).
