***2010 Nebraska Legislature***
Our State Legislative Senators have been busy introducing new bills this session, and there are a few that will be of interest to Nebraska's firearms owners. Each of these bills are listed in the "Members" section of the NFOA Forum at http://www.nebraskafirepower.com/forum/index.php?board=89.0 If you have not voted on the polls in this section, we encourage you to do so, and to join in on the discussion about each of these bills. This is the information that the NFOA uses when we testify at hearings on our members' behalf. LB889 Change provisions relating to the justification for the use of force(Castle Doctrine) LB817 Exempts concealed handgun permit holders from the requirement that they obtain a certificate to purchase a handgun. LB1033 Changes provisions relating to regulation of concealed handguns. LB860 Changes permit application provisions relating to misdemeanor crimes of violence. LB747 To provide for killing of depredating or aggressive mountain lions, etc. LB836 To provide for a mandatory deer depredation season and change provisions relating to special deer depredation seasons, etc. For more in-depth information about each bill, go to the "Member" section of the NFOA forum, or the Unicameral website at http://nebraskalegislature.gov/ , then just type the bill number into the search box at the upper right-hand corner of the page. From there you can find the status of that particular bill, any hearings that may be scheduled, and any amendments that may be attached to the bill. As a few of these bills have already been scheduled for hearings next week, we would encourage our members that have an interest in these bills to contact their Senators and respective hearing Committee members to voice your opinion to them as soon as possible. (LB747 and LB836 are scheduled for Wed. January 27, and LB817 for Fri. January 29th.) The strength of the NFOA lies in it's growing membership, so please ask your neighbors, family and friends to join us in our fight to preserve and enhance our 2nd Amendment Rights.
Castle Doctrine bill introduced in Legislature today NE State Senator Mark Christensen from Imperial introduced LB889, “Castle Doctrine” legislation today 1/11//10. Next step is the “Public Hearing” , to get this scheduled and the bill moved out of committee as soon as possible we need to put a bit of pressure on the Legislature. The NFOA has put out a press release today pointing out the benefits of this bill and calling for its support. That press release and a rebuttal to an article run by the Omaha World Herald are available at the NFOA website: www.NebraskaFirearms.org. We are asking our members to contact their local news source with words of support for this bill, as well as their Senators and those of the Judiciary Committee.
